==================

The Kawasaki GTR1000 Concours is a motorbike which has been produced (and still is!) for a long time and has proven itself in practice.
gtr3.jpg (7521 bytes) The GTR1000 is designed for long distance traveling. Flexible, smooth and fast. With itīs 98hp engine (European version) itīs very useful as "pack mule": with approx. 520kg (motorweight + three packed bags + duopassenger) this bike still behaves itself perfectly on the road.

The specifications of this motorbike can be found here. On the links page are references too.

Because of the bikeīs very well designed outfit, itīs pretty easy to drive over 1000km a day, mainly driven over secondary roads, which means not on the high-ways. There is a necessary condition to do this in a (safe) way, which is that you donīt have to stop looking for the road, or to turn around because youīve missed a turn / exit.

Here the navigation system does the trick. On the picture on the right, you can see the full mounted system. It is the "black box" mounted on the handlebars. The "black box" is just a holder, which keeps the Psion 5MX on its place and protects the Psion against heavy vibrations / shocks and rainwater.

Thanks to the high accuracy of my PC-controlled milling machine, the Psion fits perfectly in the holder.

The GPS 12XL-receiver is mounted in the (full) fairing.

It is important that this kind of equipment has been made to be easily detachable. When you leave your motorbike, you just want these things kept out of sight.

The Psion holder can be put on the groundplate, which is shown on the left picture. The four holes keep the holder at its place.

The groundplate is a replacement of the (standard) plastic cap of the steeringbearings.

The picture on the right shows the driver sight of the meter instruments. Unfortunately thereīs a little reflection on the plastic window, because I canīt fit a polarisation filter on the used camera.

Anyway, it is still obvious that thereīs a clear view of all the (cockpit) meter instruments.

As you can see, there are just a few controls on the Psion left during driving, by the use of "push-through buttons".  With these buttons you can zoom in / out, show more / less detail and adjust the contrast of the screen. These buttons are placed in a way, so that you may find them blindfolded and you can operate the system with one hand. These are some important arrangements in connection with the traffic safety. Even operating the system with gloves on is no problem.

Thereīs a backlight too, so even in the dark you still have a good view.
